Leveret’s repertoire extends to around seventy pieces and they try to play a different set in every performance. Their programme will include settings of tunes from manuscripts from the seventeenth century onwards, with sources including John Playford’s English Dancing Master, first published in 1651, and the book ‘John Of The Green – The Cheshire Way’, a compilation of tunes from Lancashire and Cheshire assembled by fiddle player John Offord. Alongside the traditional material you will hear a number of newly-composed tunes, as Leveret consider composing new tunes to be a natural extension of the ‘page to stage’ process of rediscovering forgotten tunes from the archives. The band will introduce the programme verbally.
