Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition
2026
If you enjoy ‘Young Musician of the Year’, you’ll love the Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition!
A unique and renowned event for outstanding young concert artists from around the world, the Competition started in 1979 and is now part of the Mayfield Festival. Hosted by Mayfield School, the Competition takes place over the May Bank Holiday weekend, comprising three rounds:
Quarter Finals over 1-2 May;
Semi Finals on Sunday 3 May; and
Finals on Monday 4 May.
A feast of wonderful playing will be on offer, and anyone is welcome to come along to hear the players of the future, whether you drop in for a few hours or join us for the whole four days. Competitors from around the globe, aged between 16 and 27, will perform in one of three sections: piano, strings or wind/brass. Our judges panel of outstanding musicians will comprise Kathryn Stott and Philippe Dinkel (piano), Rachel Gough and Michael Thompson (wind/brass) and Jennifer Pike and Alasdair Tait (strings). Competitors will be judged on displaying an understanding of a range of different musical languages, periods and styles and must present a varied and balanced programme in all three rounds. So there will be plenty of variety in the music as well as the performers. Please come along and enjoy watching incredibly talented young people playing sublime music. You may hear the musical stars of the future!
A copy of the printed programme covering both the Mayfield Festival and the Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition is provided FREE with each ticket.
