Mayfield Festival Choir invites you to Come & Sing Messiah with us. This is a one-day workshop, led by our Music Director, Jeremy Summerly, to explore and enjoy some of the major choruses, followed by a performance at 16:00.

Handel’s Messiah needs no introduction. Whether you’ve sung it many times, or are just wanting to have a go (but don’t know if you dare to), this is the day for you. Come and experience Jeremy’s choral directing wizardry, the incomparable joy of singing with 180 other voices and hearing the church walls ring to the final Amen. It will be a magical day indeed – and there will be trumpets and timpani!

Timetable

  • Morning session: 10:00-13:00 (with a coffee break)
  • Lunch 13:00-14:00 (provide your own)
  • Afternoon session 14:00-15:30
  • Tea break 15:30-16:00
  • Performance 16:00 – 17:30 (approximately)

Refreshments and lunch

There are several cafes and places to get take away drinks and food on Mayfield High Street as well as the very fine Middle House pub. Our breaks are relatively short, so you may prefer to bring your own food and drink.

Scores

Because of its popularity at this time of year, options for hiring Messiah scores are extremely limited. Please bring your own if you possibly can, or buy one for the occasion (you will certainly use it again!). We will be using the New Novello (Watkins Shaw) edition.

Performance

For friends and family who aren’t singing, there will be the opportunity to get an audience ticket for the performance at 16:00. Note that this will not be a complete performance of the piece, just of the selection of choruses that we have rehearsed during the day.
